Reducing Mercury Emission Uncertainty from Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Mining Using Bootstrap Confidence Intervals: An Assessment of Emission Reduction Scenarios

نویسندگان

چکیده

Atmospheric mercury emission scenarios from artisanal and small-scale gold mining for 56 tropical subtropical countries have been elaborated assessed their comparative significance. A multi-step quantitative method that yields narrow robust confidence intervals estimates was employed. Firstly, data on production different years, the ratio of used in amalgamation processes, ancillary input parameters were retrieved official unofficial sources, potential reduction examined. Then, a Monte Carlo to combine generate samples used. These processed by non-parametric re-sampling (bootstrap) obtain emissions, 95% intervals, both current state designed this study. The (to atmosphere) agree with those reported Global Mercury Assessment 2018; however, overall uncertainty is reduced roughly 100% (779.59 tons/y; range: 361.07–1197.97) 27% (1091.93 interval at level confidence: 964.54–1219.77) This substantial outcome since narrowing permits more meaningful evaluation investigated, which otherwise, given broad other estimates, would led only vague conclusions study nature.

An Integrated Assessment Approach to Address Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Mining in Ghana

Artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) is growing in many regions of the world including Ghana. The problems in these communities are complex and multi-faceted. To help increase understanding of such problems, and to enable consensus-building and effective translation of scientific findings to stakeholders, help inform policies, and ultimately improve decision making, we utilized an Integ...

Global Burden of Disease of Mercury Used in Artisanal Small-Scale Gold Mining.

BACKGROUND Artisanal small-scale gold mining (ASGM) is the world's largest anthropogenic source of mercury emission. Gold miners are highly exposed to metallic mercury and suffer occupational mercury intoxication. The global disease burden as a result of this exposure is largely unknown because the informal character of ASGM restricts the availability of reliable data. OBJECTIVE To estimate t...

Treatment of small scale gold mining wastewater using pilot-scale sedimentation and Cocopeat filter bed system

The use of amalgamation process to recover gold from mined ores by the small-scale gold miners in the Philippines and other developing countries produces and dispose of untreated wastewater to the receiving water bodies. In this study, a field-scale filter bed system was constructed to treat heavy metal metal-laden wastewater collected from small-scale gold mining site in Paracale, Camarines No...
